I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Iowa. I received my MA in Political Science in 2021 and BA in International Relations in 2019, both from the University of Iowa.
My research is at the intersection of social movements and gender. Specifically, I am interested in grassroots and international organizational dynamics and networks in contexts of social disruption, like in civil wars and natural disasters. Women's mobilization is at the heart of this research focus and I focus on the ways in which women's groups overcome social, economic, and political barriers in situations of high instability.
My dissertation looks specifically at how cooperation between women's organizations emerges, how these groups interact during civil wars, and how women's groups can leverage networks to influence the contents of peace agreements. In my other related projects, I examine women's participation in peace processes, international organizations' relationships with women's grassroots movements, and how disasters impact conflict propensity and women's lives, respectively. My work has been published in International Interactions and Disasters.
